About Us

Steps to a Brighter Life was founded in December 2014 by Otis Shelton. Otis is on a mission to reach out and help kids who are suffering in home-life like he did. Otis grew up in single parent home where his mother suffered from domestic violence and alcohol abuse. With no father present Otis was unable to have a role model in his life to give him positive character. Today his goal is to work with children to help them overcome similar obstacles. This program is also influenced by his late son Malik Syrmone Shelton who was murdered from gun violence in Birmingham Alabama in 2022. Since he has been more driven than ever to help empower children in hopes they wont have a similar fate.
